September - Amelia Toon

Q: How did you find Karen?
Amelia: Well, it was luck really. I wanted dreads, but like most people wasn't 100% sure of it yet. So I searched the internet for the company with the most experience and the "edgiest" site. I found the Hair Police in Amsterdam. Problem being they were in Amsterdam but luckily for me, there was a location in LA. Even luckier for me they were doing a show in Montreal and needed models. A long story short, (shortish) I went, Karen worked on some of my hair and someone else did some of my hair. Not dreads, but extensions. Karen had such confidence and picked it up right off the bat that I wanted her to do my hair forever, and she has been. Plus she looked really cool which was a big factor, probably the biggest. (Note: Amelia's dry sense of humour)

Q: How long have you been her client?

Amelia: I've been Karen's client for 8 years now? I think.....maybe 7, maybe 9? hard to remember when I was going to someone else.

Q: Most memorable stylist/client moment?
Amelia: Hmmm...just one? I'll name a few. I enjoy when we listen to really bad old theme songs while shes doing my hair and we try to remember them. I think most of them come from a foreign country so I don't think its fair.

I'm not sure if this counts but her grandma's pretty awesome. I'd hang out with her for a while, I think we had a conversation where she was appalled at my baking techniques. Looking back on it, she's right. Grandma makes butter tarts with currents (not raisins), pecans and just a little rum flavouring.

But I'd have to say above all else my most memorable moments with Karen are the moments that we get lost in our witty banter.

Q: Any particular favourite style/colour Karen has done for you?
Amelia: No....I don't think so. I have had so many and liked them all for different reasons. My favourite colours I guess are red and pink...the blue combo was cool too...I had black, gold and burgundy which was nice.....but now for example I want just brown....but i do love when she makes some of them curly. (see more of Amelia's hair HERE)

Q: What kind of work do you do?
Amelia: I was an addictions counselor until not long ago...now I am a small business owner and part time server.
My business is a clothing line called Jane Albert. My partner and I design clever, edgy, funny images and put them on clothes. Really they're funny.
Our site's almost done. www.janealbert.com
