WEFT MAINTENANCE
If your goal is to wear extensions for a long period of time,
you will inevitably need maintenance about every 6-12 weeks. The
longer you wait between maintenance, the more your hair will tangle
at the root. This happens because every day you accumulate shed
hair that is getting stuck in the extensions. This is normal and
happens with all hair extensions.
As the weeks pass between maintenance services, the tracks slowly
grow away from the scalp causing the wefts to hang loose from the
head. They will never completely fall off or slip out the way strand-by-strand
extensions often can.
The thread used to sew the weft is removed with a stitch ripper
and the track is un-braided. The shed hair is combed out, the tracks
are re-braided and the wefts are sewn back into the exact same position.
Each track takes 15-30 minutes to complete.
Weft maintenance is quick, affordable and safe to repeat for years
and years.
When you are finally ready to say goodbye to weft extensions, there
is no charge to remove them. It is factored into the cost when you
have them put in. Afterall..putting them in is only half the service.
STRAND BY STRAND MAINTENANCE
Although strand by strand extensions are not offered at Knot Just
Dreads, it doesn't hurt to know what may be involved in the upkeep.
Whether the extensions are pinch braided, glued, bonded or secured
with little metal beads, the process is tedious. Hundreds of individual
extensions are installed, therefore hundreds need to be taken out.
This is very time consuming and salons will usually charge for that
time.
Some extension stylists will try and tell you that strand by strand
extensions last longer than weft extensions- which is true. BUT,
if you know that you shed up to 150 hairs a day and those hairs
are accumulating at the root of each little extension, you will
have hundreds of little tiny tangles. Tangles that are much harder
to comb out than with weft extensions.
Having to pay extra for the removal of extensions doesn't make
a lot of sense. In fact, many strand by strand methods, the extension
hair is not even reusable and therefore technically is not even
a maintenance at all- it's a brand new head of extensions every
time!
